Now that the festive season is on our doorsteps, homeowners and interior design experts are introducing the latest décor trends to enhance the experience. Traditionally, festive colours always centre around green and red. Look at design elements from around the world, and you’ll find a host of incredible colour combinations that break the mould and introduce new and vibrant ideas into the mix.
A new colour scheme
Inspiration comes with cultural perspectives. Those celebrating the festive season across Asia use white as their preferred colour choice. This may be especially useful for climate, given that snowfall takes centre stage during this season.

But beyond its cultural and practical relevance, white is a highly versatile colour with a more elegant and sophisticated design scheme. White also impresses upon the duality in its effect, where it can blend in with your furniture surroundings or stand out entirely from them. However, white on its own can come across as muted, especially in more tropical climates like our own.
One has no restriction to go full-on white. However, a similar colour group may be applied here to enhance the overall effect. Soft blues in the form of background décor or ornamentals truly enhance this crystalline aesthetic. Or, if you feel the muted scheme, silver pieces or garlands provide the scintillating finishing touch.
Outside of white, there are several other colours which carry both cultural and regional significance. Among them, gold is defined as the colour of warmth and sunlight, which provides much-needed contrasts against the backdrop of dark and cold winters in the Northern Hemisphere.
Interestingly, blue and purple depict significant figures in religious custom. Blue dye was rarer and more expensive than gold; as such, the use of the colour denotes the significance of specific figures and icons. In festive design, blue and purple are used sparingly to emphasise their importance and historical rarity.
Matching your cupboards and decor to decorations
A good tip for designers would be to incorporate our Shadow Blue Unicolour into their year-end renovations. While a darker scheme contrasts perfectly with white shades and works in perfect unison with Bianco, Pure White and Glacier, as seen below. These Fantasies, Woodgrains and Unicolours provide a harmonious backdrop and set the stage for a festive wonderland.

Perhaps more aligned with the climate, a rustic décor scheme offers a sublime alternative to white. It also allows you to incorporate more shades of green against the backdrop of earthy woodgrains, balancing your festive accessories and colours with your furnishings.
While a white décor scheme impresses a more sophisticated look and feel, rustic designs are homely, warm and cosy. Interior designers should look closely at our richer woodgrain décors with Kingswood, Chobe, Pacific or Nevada. Eclipse is also excellent for providing a neutral foundation to the mix.
