For over twenty years, the Pantone Colour of the year title has influenced the product development of various trends within the design, home decor, and industrial sectors. The Pantone Colour of the Year goes through a process of deliberate consideration, taking into account all the current swings in interior design.
The goal of the Pantone Colour Institute is to seek out the top decorative colours of the year. Highlighting international trendy colour ranges and carefully going through diverse flavours in order to arrive at the top colour.
For 2021, the colour experts have unveiled their latest pantone colour of the year:
PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Grey + Pantone 13-0647 Illuminating Yellow
Highlighting the elements of two bold colours, this year’s Pantone of the year, Ultimate Grey and Illuminating Yellow, embody the practicality and warmth of solid textures. These inspirational colours encapsulate the strength and positivity that comes from one’s need to see a silver lining in the clouds. Given how the past year has gone, this year’s colour scheme carries the weight of emotion and human spirit with the solid determination and clarity that is Ultimate Grey combined with the energy and vitality of Illuminating Yellow.
With the vibrant and lively yellow of illuminating contrasted with the subtle, neutral and balancing appeal of Ultimate Grey they create the perfect decorative pairing. According to the VP of the Pantone institute, Laurie Pressman; “It’s a combination that speaks to the resilience, the optimism and hope and positivity that we need, as we reset, renew, reimagine and reinvent,”
Although choosing two colours is not uncommon, 2016 also shared its top spot, Pressman and co. believe that a unified pair creates a timely and relevant impact. They are confident that their direction influences people to consider the concept of solidarity this year as we move towards a hopefully more stable and less tumultuous period.
“Two extremely independent colours highlight how different elements come together to express this message of strength and hopefulness,” noted Pressman.
